Female football is booming at KWFC. Our facilities haven’t kept up.

KWFC has experienced extraordinary growth in female football in recent years.

Since 2021, female participation at the Club has grown by around 500%.

That growth is something we are incredibly proud of — but the facilities available to support our players have simply not kept pace.

MacNaughton Park has become an increasingly important home for our female football program, yet the ground still does not have suitable permanent floodlighting for the level of football now taking place there.

It’s time to Light Up Kingsley Westside.

What is the problem?

During the winter football season, training takes place through the darker months of the year.

The existing lighting situation at MacNaughton Park limits how effectively the ground can be used and creates ongoing safety and operational issues for players, coaches and volunteers.

The Club has relied on temporary lighting solutions to help bridge the gap, but these are cumbersome, difficult for volunteers to manage and are not a sustainable long-term answer.

As participation continues to grow, the pressure on MacNaughton Park — and on our other club facilities — will only increase.

The demand already exists.

The infrastructure simply hasn’t kept pace.

A major opportunity

Funding has already been committed by the City of Joondalup and Federal Government towards significant improvements at MacNaughton Park.

We strongly welcome that investment.

However, permanent floodlighting is not currently included within the committed funding.

KWFC is seeking an additional funding commitment of approximately $500,000 to deliver permanent floodlighting at MacNaughton Park as part of the clubroom redevelopment.

This is an opportunity to make sure the community gets the maximum benefit from the investment already committed.

If we are improving MacNaughton Park, we want to make sure we do it properly.

Why lighting matters

Permanent floodlighting would do far more than simply make the ground brighter.

It would allow KWFC to:

– provide a safer training environment during the winter months;
– make better use of the available playing space at MacNaughton Park;
– accommodate continued growth in girls’ and women’s football;
– reduce pressure on our other club grounds;
– provide coaches and players with a more reliable training environment; and
– ensure local players have access to facilities that support their participation and development.

This is not about elite sport.

It is about community participation, safety, opportunity and ensuring our facilities keep pace with the growth that is already happening.

Our female football community deserves better

Girls’ and women’s football has become one of the fastest-growing parts of Kingsley Westside FC.

Players should not be disadvantaged simply because local infrastructure has failed to keep pace with that growth.

We want every girl joining KWFC to know that there is a place for her to play, train and enjoy football in a safe and supportive environment.

Without continued investment in facilities, clubs like ours eventually face a difficult choice — restrict participation or watch players move elsewhere in search of better infrastructure.

We don’t believe our community should have to make that choice.

We need your support

Over the coming months, KWFC will be working with the City of Joondalup, State Government representatives, Football West, local businesses and our broader community to advocate for permanent floodlighting at MacNaughton Park.

We will also be sharing the stories of the players, coaches, parents and volunteers who experience the current situation every week.

Our campaign will remain positive and constructive.

We are not looking for someone to blame.

We are looking for a solution.
